Income Stream #21
Create and sell audiotapes, CDs
and other back-end audio products

from coachville.com

Introduction
A keynote speech, seminar, TeleClass, or book can be turned into audiotapes or CDs and sold. These items can be sold at the back of the room during presentations, at trade shows, or on your website.

You could also interview and tape the top experts in your field (with their permission) and sell the collection of interviews as an audiocassette or CD. There are many possibilities.

Many people like to listen to "how-to" or motivational tapes while they drive. Audiocassettes or CDs are a perfect option for them. Others like to listen to real audio on their computers. Provide more than one option and different price ranges. Individual items can be bundled together and sold as a package for a higher price.

Real World Example

Judith Parker Harris

I'm Judith Parker Harris, and I teach an eight-week program, either in person or by phone, entitled "HOW TO MOVE FROM BLOCKED TO BLOCK-BUSTER." In 1985, at the peak of my workaholic advertising career, I became blocked. I had written, produced and directed over 3,000 television commercials and was at the helm of a multi-million dollar advertising agency. Driving home from a client meeting one day, I completely lost the center of my vision and could only see things around the edges of a black hole. Days later I began to lose the feeling in my body from my waist to my toes. I soon received the diagnosis: Multiple Sclerosis. I was 35 years old. The MS diagnosis shocked me into action. I began a process that involved changing the foundational elements of my life. By 1990, my MS symptoms had disappeared and have never returned.

Today, nothing about my life is the same as it was in the year of my diagnosis, including my business. My passion is to show people how to gain control of circumstances that seem uncontrollable so they can write a BLOCK-BUSTER script for their personal and professional success. This is how I turned my passion into my new business, HEALTH-ESTEEM, INTL. I began to speak to community groups for free about how I changed my life in order to heal from MS. They always asked for something to take with them. I recorded a 90-minute audiocassette entitled, "Conquer Crisis with Health-Esteem," that sells for $15.95.

I soon realized the thirst that existed for healing, and the gap that existed between the western and eastern medical communities. I decided to quench the thirst and bridge the gap by detailing the process of my healing in workbook form that could help anyone navigate any crisis. I collaborated with my healing team and wrote, CONQUER CRISIS WITH HEALTH-ESTEEM, a 238-page workbook for women and men. With products in hand and a process that approaches healing like a business plan, I was ready for the lecture circuit. I worked with a coach to define my business plan and target market and began presenting paid lectures and workshops nationwide.

The 8-week program evolved when I realized that people often need a coach to get through the healing process more efficiently. The program consists of eight 3-hour group sessions and four, 1-hour private coachings when done locally. By phone, I provide 9 1-hour coachings and email backup to go over homework. Extensive program materials are provided each week. The cost for the program is $900.00. I am currently planning to offer this course as a TeleClass. I also offer individual coaching for people who do not want to commit to the program.

As much of my work involves getting people to look inside for answers in order to break free from thinking and emotional patterns that can cause illness or crisis, I found I needed a non-threatening way to get people (especially men) to embrace the concept. I wrote and produced an audiotape for the car entitled, "Beat Road Rage and Drive Yourself Healthy." It sells for only $9.95 and has helped me procure radio interviews throughout the country. It has also helped countless people realize how stuffed emotions can come out inappropriately when we least expect them and can often lead us into life-threatening situations. That realization leads to clients.

The beauty of my new business is that it combines all of my talents and passions. I started as a writer, producer and director. My mission is to make healing entertaining and entertaining healing. I use many movie analogies and games created to help people Change the script of their lives and Conquer the Villains.

My Suggestions are to:

  • Combine your talents to create your unique niche.
  • Follow your passions.
  • Make it entertaining.

Wanda Loskot

Hi, my name is Wanda Loskot. I am a coach specializing in small business, and I offer several audio programs. My audio programs have proven to be a marvelous back-end product and a perfect opportunity to gain new clients.

I began with taping TeleClasses using a Sony tape recorder with a small adapter from Radio Shack (total cost about $30).

I edited my first tapes using a double deck tape recorder and I sent them to the RecordingProducts.com for duplication (about 60 cents a piece). I also produced my own labels using Avery paper and Microsoft Publisher. Tapes were far from perfect, but one of them paved its way to become an official handout on the seminar of Jay Abraham.

Recently I bought a small duplication machine, Telex Replica, for $279 from RecordingProducts.com - which paid for itself very quickly. I can duplicate a 60-minute tape in 50 seconds!

My next project was developing my own 2-tape audio seminar which I offer at EmailMarketingTips.com. Renting a studio is quite expensive, so I decided to record it at my office, reading the script in front of my computer. After some investigation, I was surprised to find out that a simple Radio Shack mike for $20 was the perfect solution for this kind of recording.

I also offer my products on CDs. Producing these is really easy. Most new computers are already equipped with CD burner; if not you can get a CD burner at Best Buy for $50 or so.

I buy blank tapes, CDs and labels on Ebay. You will find there amazing bargains! My audio albums are also from RecordingProducts.com

To edit audio more precisely, I purchased the Cool Edit 2000, standard software in broadcasting. It was surprisingly inexpensive; only $69 from syntrillium.com and very easy to use. Upgrade it for another $49 to a Studio version and you can use four tracks to add music and special effects. A lot of FUN!

My last program offered at MakeYourBusinessThrive.com is packaged in elegant album with color cover. It is a combination of a tightly edited TeleClasses, interviews and my own recordings - 8 tapes or CD - plus a manual and many extras.

I have a background in broadcasting so all this never intimidated me, but even if you are a total novice in sound editing, you should dive in. It is really easy to learn. If you know how to edit text documents, you can learn fast how to edit your sound files. It is all based on editing content with cut, paste and delete functions.

Once you have a digital audio program, you can also use it on the web - as an audio sample of your coaching, or you can offer the entire course in streaming media, like I do at MakeYourBusinessWork.com. It is a great sales booster because you can offer it at a more affordable price. The best thing about it: it can be totally automated because there is nothing to ship!

Pick a topic you have a passion for or are an expert in.
Do your market research. Is there a market for your products and services?
Create more than one product from your information. A seminar can be taped and turned into an audiocassette tape. The audiocassette can be transcribed and turned into a book or ebook.
