Introduction Coaches
can mentor other coaches in their area of expertise and add additional income
in the form of coaching fees. Mentor coaching is a combination of mentoring --
acting as a wise and trusted advisor and teacher -- and coaching -- drawing the
answers from the client. It is an evolution of one on one coaching in that the
coach will still strive to support the client to find their own answers but may
also advise or recommend that the client take certain actions in order to achieve
the intended result.
A number of coaches mentor new coaches on how to
build their practice quickly. The new coach benefits from the experience of the
more established coach who has already discovered what works and doesn't work
when building their own practice. The certification portion of some coach training
programs require students to hire mentor coaches who are graduates of the program.
Mentor coaching is similar to one to one coaching in that:
Most mentor coaching
takes place via the telephone. Some coaches offer in person coaching for a higher
fee.
A typical coaching
session is 30 minutes in length offered 3-4 times a month. Some coaches offer
longer sessions.
The monthly mentor
coaching fee ranges from $200-$500+ for a set number of sessions per month.

Laurel von Pander: Mentoring New Coaches diamondstarcoaching.com

My name is Laurel von Pander and
I'm president of Diamond Star Coaching. Although my practice includes a variety
of coaching services delivered in a number of ways, I like to focus on the "Mentor
Coaching" aspect of my revenue streams. Mentor coaching was born largely from
my own success in building a full practice of clients (I consider 22-28 clients
to be a full practice).
Within a few short months, other
coaches were drawn to how they could repeat this in some manner. This was the
opportunity to Mentor Coach new, as well as experienced coaches who wanted to
propel their practices to new levels.
This Mentor Coaching opportunity extended when
the coaching college I graduated from heard of my work and offered me a Faculty
position. I taught the final week (Business Management Course) to coaches as part
of their 10-month training program. Teaching coaches how to start and run a successful
coaching practice. In this position, the college benefited from the experience
and presence of a full-time practicing coach who had created a full practice quickly.
I benefited from being paid well, as well as gaining exposure to a fresh group
of new coaches who may want a Mentor Coach at some time.
To date I have coached approximately thirty-something
coaches, on a one-to-one basis. In terms of revenues this has meant several thousand
dollars worth of business for my practice. In terms of the value to my "coach
clients" it has meant MANY, MANY more thousands of dollars to them. One of my
coaches went from a practice just shy of $3,000.00 per month (CDN) in revenue,
and 5 clients, to over $22,000.00 (USD) per month, 18 clients of his own and two
coaches working with him! He did this in less than six months! Way to go coach!
With the rapid growth which is unfolding within
the coaching industry, it is an aspect of my business which offers tremendous
future potential. I find this type of work particularly rewarding and fulfilling.
